What this does: it shows the six things that make a roof last and re-ranks them by the priority you choose — so you can hand your crew a real spec, not a blank check.

The sixth nail

the extra fastener your wind zone requires — and the one crews skip

  • 20+ years in roofing — and we don't sell you one
  • Flat fee — our price is the same no matter your roof
  • You stay in control — your contract, your crew, your call
Why "Sixth Nail"

The extra nail nobody talks about — and the control nobody gives you.

Most crews fasten shingles with four nails when your wind zone calls for six. The sixth nail is the one that gets skipped — the small shortcut that costs you later. That standard — sweating the detail that protects you — is what this whole company is named after.

Our fee is $2,000, flat, whether your roof costs twelve thousand or twenty. Because we don't sell or install a thing, we've got no reason to shade the truth — just to hand you the playbook and the crews, and put you in charge of your own roof.

Where We Stand

On your side of the table — and clear about it.

Never a percentage

One flat fee, paid by you. We never take a cut of a claim or a job — so our advice is never bent by our paycheck.

You hold the contract

You sign directly with your subcontractor for the work. We're your advisors, never a link in the payment chain.

Verified crews only

Every subcontractor we hand you has had license, insurance, and track record checked first. No storm chasers.

Common Questions

Straight answers, before you commit

What exactly does Sixth Nail do?
Sixth Nail is Independent Roofing Consulting. We don't sell or install roofs — we hand you the complete playbook for your project and a verified network of local crews you hire and direct yourself, so you stay in control the whole way. It's a team of experts in your corner instead of a salesman at your door, and it's 100% remote — across our service areas.
How are you different from a roofing contractor?
A contractor makes more money the more you spend — pricier shingles, a bigger job, higher margin. We charge one flat fee no matter what your roof costs, so there's nothing for us to upsell. Our only job is getting you the right roof for the money you have.
Who actually does the roofing work?
A vetted, licensed, and insured crew from our verified network — one you contract with directly. We're your advisors and never a link in the payment chain, so you always hold the contract and stay in control of the work.
Is it legal for me to hire the roofer directly instead of one general contractor?
In Tennessee, yes — as the owner of your home, the state lets you act as your own contractor on your own residence and hire the trades directly, commonly called the owner-builder exemption. It applies to the home you live in (not a property you're fixing up to sell, lease, or rent). The crews you bring on still need to be properly licensed for their work — which is exactly why we only put verified, licensed subcontractors in front of you. Rules like this vary by state, so if you're in Alabama or elsewhere, we'll confirm exactly how it applies to you before we start. This is general information, not legal advice — we'll walk through how it applies to your specific situation on our call.
I have an insurance claim — can you help me get a bigger check?
No — and that's an important distinction. We're not public adjusters, and we don't advise on the amount of your claim or negotiate with your insurer. What we do is put you in charge of the claim you've already been approved for — with the playbook and the crews to turn it into the strongest possible roof, on your terms.
What does it cost?
One flat fee — $2,000 for your Playbook and access to our Verified Network, the same whether your roof costs twelve thousand or twenty. It's never a percentage of your claim or your job.
Do you come out to my house?
No — it's 100% remote. You send your insurance scope sheet or a few phone photos, and we work from those plus aerial imagery. That's exactly how we're able to help homeowners across our service areas without ever needing to set foot on your property.
How do you choose the subcontractors?
Every crew we hand you has had their license, insurance, and track record checked first. We only send you people we'd be comfortable putting on our own homes — no storm chasers, no fly-by-night crews.
Why is it called "Sixth Nail"?
Most crews fasten shingles with four nails when your wind zone calls for six. That skipped sixth nail is the small shortcut that costs you later — and holding every roof to that extra measure of care is the standard the whole company is named after.
